Hi there! My name’s Mandie Garcia – I’m a photojournalist and artist with four years of experience working in T.V. news production. I’m currently based in Washington D.C., but I spent a lot of my time working in Amman, Jordan, and my home state of Texas.

I launched my career as a studio camera and audio operator at the CBS/Telemundo affiliate station in Austin, TX. Since I graduated with a broadcasting degree from Texas State University in 2013, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work across different forms of media. I have a background in radio news reporting, creative production for nonprofit organizations, and investigative journalism. My art and reporting always showcase themes of human rights issues and politics due to my extensive background volunteering in international relief and development.

After working as a videography instructor in the Austin, TX school district for two years, I completed Arabic language programs at the University of Houston and the Sijal Institute in Amman, Jordan. I spent most of 2018 living in Amman, Jordan working as creative director for the Wishbox Media company, and completing an internship with New York Times journalist, Rana Sweis. I am listed in the acknowledgement section of Sweis’ book “Voices of Jordan” due to my research and photography. Other past work includes International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, Austin Media Awareness Project and Battleground Texas.

Currently I work as a camera operator at an Arabic language T.V. news station in Washington D.C. I also freelance as an event photographer and artist (mostly acrylic painting). I love photojournalism and filmmaking so in my free time I take documentary style photography at protests and large events in D.C.
